The School of Sciences started functioning in 2017, with the challenge of imparting good quality theoretical and practical education in three science disciplines, namely, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Environment Science having Honors degree. Here in the School of Science, we discover and find out answers to most convincing questions, define new fields of study, and create solutions to global challenges. Moving seamlessly across disciplinary boundaries, we bring together the best of all fields in order to advance the cause of science.

With exceptional leadership, a strong and growing faculty, and modern facilities,the curriculum in B.Sc. is structured to provide a common, broad-based foundation, passing on fundamental concepts and principles in Science through lectures, tutorials, discussions and presentations. The curriculum has a significant practical component that trains students in experimental skills essential to Science. Student’s seminars and assignments are designed to be highly challenging, which paves way for the students to bring out their intellectual and interactive skills in analyzing scientific problems. Courses like critical thinking, academic writing, research methodology, entrepreneurship, creativity & innovation, skill enhancement and community service etc will be part of the curriculum for all science students in various streams.

Qualification: Pass in 10+2, or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and English with Biology or Biotechnology or any other Life Science subjects.

B.Sc Biotechnology

Biotechnology is the research-oriented science including a mixing of biology and technology. The study of living organisms like plants, animals and microbes and its application to human welfare is known as biotechnology. The study includes structures, physiological and biochemical functions and various beneficial and harmful aspects of living organisms. Biotechnology can deliver the next wave of technological change that can be radical and even more pervasive than that brought about by IT. Employment generation, intellectual wealth creation, expanding entrepreneurial opportunities, augmenting industrial growth are a few of the compelling factors that warrant a focused approach for this sector. Biotechnology and Biosciences are one of the most research – intensive industries in the world.

Biotechnology is perceived as a revolution throughout the world. If you have a strong inclination for unraveling the mysteries of nature, then biotech sector is the one you should go for. There are enormous opportunities for a career in Biotechnology. The enormity of biological resources makes a case for raising a whole cache of highly trained professionals for inventorisation, characterization and documentation. The areas offering opportunities include Medical microbiology, modern health care delivery systems, Bio-medical engineering and Biomaterials, diagnostics in health care, industrial biotech, environmental protection,

biodiversity conservation, food processing, bioprospecting marine bioproducts, production of biological and other biotechnological products, entrepreneurship development, teaching and training in biotechnology and biosciences. On completion of a course in this area candidates shall acquire knowledge in process and products of living organisms, biomedical instrumentation, computational techniques and immunotechnology. Dr. Hiren Patel is working as I/C Head of Biotechnology Department at the P. P. Savani School of Biotechnology, P.P. Savani University, Surat, Gujarat since July, 2016. He has more than two years of teaching experience in reputed university. He has done Ph.D. in major subject of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with minor subject Biochemistry from Navsari agricultural University, Navsari (Gujarat) and qualified two
times ICAR-NET. He got Gold Medal for “BEST INNOVATIVE RESEARCH” in Ph.D. Agriculture by Honorable Chancellor of Gujarat, Agricultural
Minister of Gujarat & Deputy Director of ICAR, New Delhi. He has more than 05 years of research experience, guided seven B.Sc./M.Sc. Biotech students & having M.Phil guide-ship in Biotechnology. He published many research papers in National/International journals & submitted 18 nucleotide sequence in NCBI.

Brief Profile:
Dr. Anish Kumar Sharma is a faculty of School of Biotechnology, P.P. Savani University, Surat, Gujarat since July, 2016. He has done Ph.D. in major subject of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with minor subject Microbiology from Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Solan (H.P.) and qualified GATE Biotechnology in 2011 with AIR-151 and 99.01 percentile, ICAR-NET in 2013 (67%) and CSIR-NET examination in 2013 with AIR-33. He has published research papers in National as well as International journals. He submitted 10 nucleotide DNA sequence in NCBI. He has attended many National & International conferences, workshops and trainings.

B.Sc Micro-Biology

The study of microbes has been critical in our current understanding of basic biological processes, evolution, and the functions of the biosphere and has contributed to numerous fields of engineering. Microbes have the amazing ability to grow in extreme conditions, to grow slowly or rapidly, and to readily exchange DNA. They are essential for life as we know it, but can also be agents of disease. They are instrumental in shaping the environment, in evolution, and in modern biotechnology. They are amenable to virtually all modern approaches in science and engineering. Microbes provide natural engineering laboratories for creating new capabilities for industry (e.g., pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy), and are the foundation of pioneering efforts in synthetic biology – i.e. building life from its component parts.

In the Microbiology degree program at P P Savani University, students will study microbes at a cellular level and learn about their interactions with higher organisms, including the way in which microbes cause disease. The B.Sc. program will give students an understanding of the basis of immune recognition and vaccine design – infectious diseases and methods of control – microbial biotechnology, and parasitology. Students will also develop an understanding of the importance of microbiology in environmental, agricultural and industrial settings. Microbiology is a discipline of enormous importance and research in this discipline has been revolutionized by new and exciting technologies such as proteomics, genomics, bioinformatics and genetic engineering.

Microbiologists suit for jobs in the area of Medical microbiology, Agricultural microbiology, Industrial microbiology, Food and Dairy microbiology and also in Marine microbiology.

Microbiologists who choose this degree pathway are highly sought after by employers as they have a broad range of skills. This enables them to be highly adaptable employees, capable of working in a wide variety of settings, whether in academic roles or in industrial and government organizations.

B.Sc Environmental Science

In the School of Environmental Sciences (SES) we teach, study, and conduct research, in  the life and physical sciences to address critical environmental issues and processes related to the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.

School of Environmental Sciences provides and foster academic excellence in a diverse suite of undergraduate and graduate programs focused on the comprehensive study of biotic and abiotic interactions and environmental issues in natural and managed ecosystems. It is a highly respected, research-intensive community that promotes communication and collaboration among academics, industry and government at the provincial, national and international levels.

The School has diversified interest in various earth, atmospheric and biological processes. Linkages between Ecological and Social processes give an additional dimension to School’s interest, making the work relevant. Therefore, the curriculum has components of disciplinary areas such as physical sciences, earth and atmospheric sciences, environmental biology, and environmental monitoring and management.
